Caylie Chiu is a poet from Daly City, where she attends Westmoor High School as part of the Class of 2028. She currently serves as her class treasurer in Student Government and was the former editor-in-chief of her school’s newspaper. Her writing expresses themes and ideas of identity, self-discovery, and growing up in the Bay Area. Outside of writing poetry, you can find her running in cross country and track and volunteering around Daly City.
Congratulations Caylie on being selected our 2025-2026 Youth Poet Laureate!
Caylie Chiu’s service project as the Daly City Youth Poet Laureate program was called Cards for Care, a donation project aimed at connecting kids in grades K-12 with elderly residents. She created this with a goal of bridging the cultural and generational gaps between students and elderly people, especially in this age of technology. Cards for Care is an attempt to address this disconnect by having students write to elders and showcase their art and writing to them in the form of letters. The combination of letter-writing, poetry, and artwork in each card is also meant to bring together the talents of these people from different age groups to create a small gift crafted with care.
